What Is a Cholesteric LCD Display?

A cholesteric LCD display (ChLCD) is a reflective display built on cholesteric (chiral nematic) liquid crystals, which self-assemble into a helical structure that reflects a specific wavelength of light to produce color without a backlight — similar to structural color in nature. It’s bistable: once an image is set, it stays visible with zero power until actively changed, switching between a planar state (crystals reflect light — bright pixel) and a focal conic state (crystals scatter light — dark pixel), driven by MyGica’s optimized system for faster, more stable refresh.
